wedding forcedA forced marriage takes place when the bride, groom or both do not want to get married but are forced to by others, usually their families. In the UK, forced marriage amounts to a form of domestic violence and/or child abuse. It can affect women and men as well as girls and boys from any community and background.

WIRCC offers support to women and girls who have been raped or sexually abused at sometime in their lives and this can and does include those caught up in forced marriages.

We have listed some links to organisations in the UK that are specially equipped to help and support victims of forced marriage.  These are recognised organisations but as they are not part of the WIRCC website but exterior links we (WIRCC) cannot be held responsible for information, or advice taken from these sites.
